As Instagram grows more popular by the day, it is only normal that more and more brands are becoming interested in establishing a presence on this popular social media site. Lately we have seen a rise in the use of Instagram stories and other features of Instagram such as Instagram Live and IGTV (Instagram TV). Now, every time we create content on Instagram, the question arises, should I make a post or a story? There is no right or wrong answer for this question! The fact that you decided to bring your brand to Instagram is already beneficial, but we can give you some guidelines to help you decide how to post your content.
Instagram Feed
Posts in your Instagram feed will stay on your profile for as long as you keep it there, this content is usually planned to create harmony throughout the feed. Your feed will be the face of your company, an overview of it should give an idea of what your company is about.
Posts on your Instagram feed can be discovered by new audiences even if your post is old. Many Instagram users discover new content through the use of hashtags (#). You can use as many hashtags as you like in the caption section of your post to be discoverable for new audiences.
Most of the successful Instagram pages plan their photos and captions ahead of time, that way they can create good and relevant content for their feed.
Remember that the content of pictures or videos in your feed is important, the richer the content the more your audience would be interested in your posts. For example, it would be a good idea to post good product shots if you are in the business of selling a tangible product. Your goal should be to provide good value for your brand.
Instagram Stories
As you might know, Instagram stories disappear after 24 hours. Usually, the content of the stories is more spontaneous and shared in the moment, having said so, you don't need to worry about how the feed is going to look or the content of your feed. Instagram stories are ideal to engage existing audiences. You can keep your brand at the top of your consumers mind with news about your products, and/or promotions. A simple message such as “Good Morning” story is enough to keep you in the mind of your customers.
As you might have noticed, stories are viewed in order, if your first story is not interesting enough, the others will suffer the consequences. Viewers are more likely to skip your stories if the first one does not peak their interest. When we watch the stories, many times we are in public places or with people around and we end up viewing the stories in silence, skipping the videos you need sound. Adding subtitles is an excellent way to reach those who could only see the content but not hear it. Keep it simple and just add the key points they need to understand your story. One way to take advantage of stories is to connect them with other content. Take people to your feed or blog by sharing it in stories too!
The winner is..
Both of them! The decision of taking your business to Instagram is already a great decision! Users are actively looking for new places to visit, new products to buy and looking at what other people are doing. Your primary goal should be establishing a presence and keeping you audience informed about your brand in a fun and creative way.
